Student Tutorial Program
Written by Hugh Bastiaan
STUDENT TUTORIAL PROGRAM (STP) 2010

1. About the Program

The Student Tutorial Program is a free service offered to all registered members of the Monash Law Students’ Society. The Program includes bi-weekly tutorials for each compulsory and quasi-compulsory unit. Tutorials are lead by students who are employed by the Society having previously excelled in one of these units.

Tutorials include an overview of the key principles, cases and elements relating to the topics covered within a particular unit. Tutors facilitate and direct group discussion on an original problem question that is provided at the start of each session.

The Student Tutorial Program provides a pressure-free, social apparatus for students to reinforce faculty teaching and consolidate general skills (i.e. issue spotting, legal reasoning) that are required throughout their time at Law School.

2. STP Tutor Applications - NOW OPEN

Applications are now open for student tutors for 2010. Tutors will be required to run two tutorials each week (covering the same material) from weeks 3 to 12 with a policy/revision seminar to be held in week 13.

Tutors will receive $50 for each first tutorial of the week and $35 for the second. Applicants should be aware they will need to set aside adequate time to prepare for tutorials each week. Payment for the policy/revision seminar will be $100 if run by one person or $50 each if run by two people. Tutors will also need to provide a brief set of notes (no more than 20pages) to be made available to students on the LSS website.

Subjects requiring tutors in Semester 1:
- Contract
- Criminal Law
- Corporations Law
- Administrative Law

Successful applicants may also be required to attend a 1hr training session before tutorials commence.
